St. Vincent Taekwondo Federation – Safe Sport Policy
“Protecting the Spirit of Sport by Ensuring Respect, Safety, and Integrity for All”
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone participating in STF activities, free from abuse, harassment, discrimination, and any behavior that undermines the integrity of Taekwondo.
This policy also ensures compliance with World Taekwondo regulations, UNICEF safeguarding principles, and international Safe Sport best practices, while adapting them to the unique realities of a small island nation with limited but passionate sports resources.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all:
Athletes, coaches, referees, and officials.
Volunteers, administrators, and board members.
Parents, guardians, and spectators at STF events.
Both in-person and digital/online interactions related to STF activities.
3. Guiding Principles
STF’s Safe Sport approach is built on:
Zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, and exploitation.
Prevention through education, awareness, and proactive policies.
Respect for human rights and the dignity of all participants.
Transparency and accountability in handling complaints.
Collaboration with law enforcement, child protection services, and health professionals.
4. Definitions
Harassment – Unwanted conduct that offends, humiliates, or intimidates.
Abuse – Physical, emotional, or sexual harm to a participant.
Bullying – Repeated, aggressive behavior intended to hurt or dominate.
Misconduct – Any behavior that violates this policy, STF rules, or the law.
5. Expected Standards of Behavior
All STF participants must:
Treat others with dignity and respect at all times.
Use appropriate language and avoid profanity or slurs.
Maintain professionalism in physical contact.
Follow STF’s Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policy, and Anti-Doping Policy.
6. Prohibited Behaviors
Physical abuse, striking, or excessive force outside competition rules.
Sexual harassment, innuendo, or non-consensual contact.
Hazing or initiation rituals.
Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, or disability.
Retaliation against anyone making a complaint in good faith.
7. Safe Training & Competition Environments
All dojangs must meet safety standards for flooring, lighting, ventilation, and emergency exits.
Protective equipment must be STF-approved and in good condition.
Training sessions must be supervised by certified coaches.
8. Travel & Accommodation Safety
Compliance with the STF Travel & Chaperone Policy.
Gender-appropriate room sharing unless otherwise approved by parents/guardians.
Clear curfews and supervision responsibilities.
9. Social Media & Digital Safety
No inappropriate direct messaging between minors and adults without parental involvement.
No sharing of images or videos of minors without written consent.
STF reserves the right to investigate online misconduct related to STF activities.
10. Reporting Mechanisms
Concerns can be reported verbally, in writing, or through a confidential online form.
Reports can be made anonymously, though providing contact details can aid investigations.
All reports are handled by the STF Safe Sport Officer or the Child Protection Officer.
11. Investigation Process
All complaints are acknowledged within 48 hours.
A preliminary review determines whether the case requires an internal hearing or referral to authorities.
Investigations follow due process, ensuring fairness to all parties.
12. Support for Victims
Access to counseling or mental health services.
Protective measures such as temporary suspension of accused individuals.
Assistance with legal or medical referrals if required.
13. Education & Awareness
Annual Safe Sport workshops for athletes, coaches, and officials.
Online learning modules for parents and guardians.
Posters and guides displayed at all STF events and dojangs.
14. Disciplinary Actions
Sanctions for breaches of this policy may include:
Verbal or written warnings.
Mandatory retraining.
Temporary or permanent suspension from STF activities.
Reporting to national authorities.
15. Monitoring & Review
The STF Safe Sport Policy will be reviewed every two years.
Data on complaints and resolutions will be analyzed to improve practices.
Feedback from athletes, parents, and coaches will be incorporated into policy updates.
