Women in Taekwondo Development Strategy

Strategic & Growth

St. Vincent Taekwondo Federation – Women in Taekwondo Development Strategy

“Empowering Women, Strengthening Taekwondo”

1. Purpose

The Women in Taekwondo Development Strategy aims to create a sports environment where girls and women can thrive at every level — as athletes, coaches, referees, leaders, and role models.

In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, opportunities for women in sport have historically been limited due to cultural norms, resource constraints, and lack of visibility. This strategy addresses those gaps by empowering women, breaking barriers, and ensuring equality of opportunity.

2. Vision

To make Taekwondo a sport in which women and girls in St. Vincent and the Grenadines can participate, lead, and excel without limitation — gaining confidence, skills, and recognition both locally and internationally.

3. Core Principles

  1. Equality – Equal access to resources, training, and competition opportunities.

  2. Empowerment – Giving women the skills, confidence, and leadership capacity to succeed.

  3. Visibility – Showcasing female role models to inspire the next generation.

  4. Safety – Ensuring a harassment-free, supportive, and respectful environment.

  5. Mentorship – Linking young athletes with experienced female coaches and leaders.

4. Strategic Goals

A. Increase Female Participation

  • Grow the percentage of female athletes in STF-affiliated dojangs across all age groups.

  • Promote Taekwondo as a safe, empowering choice for girls and women seeking fitness, self-defense, and personal growth.

B. Develop Female Leaders in Sport

  • Actively recruit and train women as coaches, referees, and administrators.

  • Encourage female representation on STF’s executive board and committees.

C. Promote Equal Competition Opportunities

  • Ensure women’s events receive equal promotion, scheduling priority, and resources as men’s events.

  • Support female athletes in accessing regional and international competition pathways.

D. Create a Supportive Culture

  • Implement and enforce safe sport policies to protect against harassment and discrimination.

  • Foster a sisterhood culture where women support and celebrate each other’s successes.

5. Key Initiatives

  • Women-Only Training Sessions – Creating safe spaces for skill-building and confidence growth.

  • Female Role Model Campaigns – Sharing stories of women in STF to inspire participation.

  • Mentorship Program – Connecting young athletes with experienced women in Taekwondo.

  • Leadership Workshops – Training women in sport governance, event management, and public speaking.

  • Collaboration with Women’s Organizations – Partnering with NGOs and community groups to promote empowerment through martial arts.

6. Long-Term Impact

This strategy is not just about participation — it is about empowerment. By building strong female athletes and leaders, the STF will:

  • Challenge outdated gender norms in sport.

  • Provide positive female role models for young girls.

  • Strengthen the national talent pool with a wider base of skilled practitioners.

  • Inspire future generations to see Taekwondo as a sport where women belong at the top — on the mat and in the boardroom.
